Questions adapted from the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) — the most widely used validated measure in clinical research  ·  Built on research from 40+ clinical and community sources  ·  Affects 1 in 10 people — most have never measured their progress

Invisible progress is the #1 reason people give up.

You've done the work. You've read the articles. Maybe you've been to therapy. But without a way to measure what's changing, it's impossible to know if any of it is actually working — and that uncertainty quietly erodes everything.

The feelings wheel never answered this question. Neither did your therapist.

Every tool in the alexithymia space teaches you what emotions are. None of them tell you how far you've come in understanding your own. That gap is the whole problem.

"I've tried apps, workbooks, therapy — all of them require me to already have emotional awareness to use them. Nothing has ever started where I actually am." — The experience of the majority of people with alexithymia

If you don't know where you started, you can't know how far you've come. And if you can't see progress, you stop believing in it.

20-Question Baseline Assessment

Adapted from the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), the most widely-used validated measure in clinical alexithymia research. Takes 5 minutes. Gives you a score from 0–100 across three dimensions: identifying feelings, describing feelings, and externally-oriented thinking.

Start here

Weekly Check-in (2 Minutes)

Three slider questions: How easy was it to notice something was happening? How well could you name it? How often did you communicate it to someone? Plus an optional free-text reflection field. Every check-in is logged and plotted on your chart.

Weekly habit
💬

Emotion Vocabulary Builder

120+ words across 8 categories — from Basic through to Subtle/Hard-to-name and Somatic clues. Tap a word when you've successfully identified that feeling in yourself, even once. Your vocabulary count is tracked on your dashboard and feeds into your milestone progress.

📈

Live Progress Dashboard

Your baseline score, your latest score, your total change, weeks tracked, and vocabulary count — all visible at a glance. A live Chart.js line graph shows your score over time against your baseline. A "what to do next" prompt keeps you moving.

10 Milestone Markers

From "Baseline taken" to "Score improved by 15+ points" — concrete achievements that unlock as you progress. First check-in, 10/25/50 words owned, 4/8/12 weeks tracked. Every milestone you unlock is proof that something is changing.

How it works

Three things, then a weekly 2-minute habit.

1

Take the baseline assessment

20 questions, one at a time, with a progress bar. No right or wrong answers — just honest ones. Your score appears immediately with a breakdown by category.

~5 min
2

Do a weekly check-in

Every week, three quick sliders. Rate how well you noticed, named, and communicated emotions. Add an optional note about one moment that stood out. Done.

~2 min
3

Claim your emotion words

When you successfully identify a feeling — even vaguely, even once — tap it in the vocabulary builder. Watch your count grow. This is the most underrated form of progress.

4

Watch your chart change

Come back to your dashboard whenever you want to see where you started, where you are now, and how far you've come. Take it to therapy. Share it with your partner. Finally have an answer to "am I getting better?"

Built on what the research actually shows

Not on guesswork. Not on generic emotional wellness advice.

TAS-20 Based Assessment

The baseline questions are adapted from the Toronto Alexithymia Scale — used in thousands of clinical studies since 1994 and validated across multiple populations.

Progress Matters

Research shows alexithymia is not fixed — meaningful shifts in emotional awareness occur with consistent, structured practice over 6–12 weeks.

Measurement Drives Outcomes

The single biggest predictor of sustained engagement is seeing progress. Without measurement, invisible results lead to dropout. This tool makes progress visible.

Is this for you?

Frequently asked questions

What exactly do I receive?
A single HTML file that you download and open in any web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge). No installation, no account, no app store. Open it on your phone or laptop and it works.
Is my data private?
Completely. Everything you enter — your assessment answers, check-ins, vocabulary, notes — is stored locally in your browser using localStorage. Nothing is sent to any server. Not mine, not anyone else's.
Is this a clinical diagnosis?
No. The Alexithymia Progress Tracker is a self-tracking tool, not a clinical assessment. The baseline questions are adapted from a validated scale, but your score is for your own reference — not a medical diagnosis. If you think you may have alexithymia and want a formal assessment, speak to a qualified mental health professional.
Can I use this alongside therapy?
Yes — this is one of the best use cases for it. Bring your dashboard to a session. Show your therapist your baseline score and current check-in data. It gives your therapist concrete information to work with, and gives you something to say when they ask "how have you been this week?"
What if I lose the file or clear my browser?
The Settings screen has a data export button that downloads your progress as a JSON file. Use it periodically as a backup. If you clear your browser's local storage, your data will be lost — so export regularly if you want to keep it long-term.
Will the score actually change over time?
For most people, yes — with consistent practice. Research on alexithymia shows meaningful shifts in emotional awareness over 6–12 weeks of structured engagement. The tracker doesn't create the change — your practice does. The tracker makes that change visible.
I have chronic illness / my body signals are unreliable. Will this work for me?
The weekly check-in questions are designed to be body-optional — they ask about noticing, naming, and communicating emotional states, not about physical sensation specifically. The vocabulary builder also includes somatic and contextual words. It's not perfect for every situation, but it's more accessible than most tools for this reason.
Is there a refund policy?
Because this is a digital file that's instantly accessible, I don't offer automatic refunds. But if you have a genuine issue or the file doesn't work for you, reach out and I'll sort it.

Stop wondering if you're getting better.
Start knowing.

Take your baseline today. Check in every week. Watch your score change. You deserve to see your own progress.
